I am a sober single Mom with almost 8 years of sobriety. Still to this day I wear a blue “Choose Well, Live Well” bracelet to remind myself that if I make healthy choices I will live well. Back in 2012 I lost this little rubber bracelet and I didn’t even notice it fell off until it was too late. I was devastated – the bracelet was gone. I had purchased the bracelet for a $1 donation at the Center for Spiritual Living here in Boca while in my first year of recovery. I was attending an event wirh Dr. Michael Bernard Beckwith, author of “Spiritual Liberation: Fulfilling Your Soul’s Potential” and he is also one of the many contributors to the best-selling book and movie, “The Secret” Dr. Michael Bernard Beckwith’s message was very inspirational and motivating for me. It was encouraging me to let go of fear, doubt, the less-thans, worry etc., (Abuser values instilled from a traumatic childhood) and empowering me to live up to my full potential and become more authentic.
Choose Well Live Well
All day long I thought about that missing bracelet, wondering where I could have lost it. I went to pick up my children at day care after work and soon after discovered, in my daughter’s file folder, the missing bracelet…I was in shock. I asked in an elated voice, “who found my bracelet?” The room was filled with little kids running around and parents gathering their belongings to go home for the evening. No one heard me or even looked up. Then, my son Gavin came running over and said “Mommy, I found your bracelet in the mulch outside on the playground and I knew it was yours because you wear it everyday and you tell us to choose well and make healthy choices for ourselves.”
I reached down and gave him the biggest hug and thanked him for finding it. My daughter, Abigail, jumped on my back and hugged me too! While driving home that night I talked about the bracelet and what it meant to choose well to live well and both of my children said “We know that mommy, you always tell us that.”
Today I am blessed to be present in my children’s lives and I am doing all I can to do my part to be a “good human” and help others who are willing to make healthier choices for themselves too. I will continue to choose well to live well.
